This is a wonderful program on Bloomberg TV. Apparently I’m not alone in liking it; it’s now in Season 8.
For 30 minutes, Rubenstein interviews leaders, roughly from business, government, and philanthropy circles. Examples: Novartis, John Kerry, Amazon, World Bank, BET, Federal Reserve, Chevron, Coinbase, and Sylvester Stallone.
He teases out his interviewee’s background (where they came from; how they got there) … how their industry and business works … their current challenges and opportunities … their observations and insights on current events and leadership.
It’s a good way to learn from successful leadership practitioners… and a good way to learn about other industries.
He has a light-hearted style; he pokes fun at his interviewees and himself.
Rubenstein is (hopefully) the new owner of the Baltimore Orioles. He grew up In Baltimore; his dad worked for the Post Office. He lives in Bethesda. He is co-founder and co-chairman of the Carlyle Group, a global private equity investment company based in DC. He is a big-time philanthropist: Rubenstein was among the initial 40 individuals who have pledged to give away more than half of their wealth as part of The Giving Pledge.
