By nature and choice, I’m a trusting person. I disdain … if not abhor … cynicism and skepticism. Both are negative, unproductive, and no way to go through life.
But increasingly, I don’t know what news and news sources to trust. That’s bad, really bad.
Example.
I saw some YouTubes that seemed to imply that Stacey Abrams was tainted by a $2B grant to some NGO by the federal EPA. By “tainted” I mean they implied that she personally benefited from that grant. Maybe I misunderstood the YouTubes.
So, I googled the topic and got lots and lots of search results. Some from sources I’ve heard of. Some from sources I’ve never heard of it. The barrage of mis- and dis-information on the web has made me skeptical of virtually everything I read.
I read a couple anyway, from “trusted” sources. I still couldn’t figure out if Abrams got any of the $2B. So, I tried ChatGPT which told me she didn’t personally benefit. As I understood it, that conclusion was based on what she said and what one of the NGOs said. I am assuming that she and the NGO were truthful. But frankly, I still don’t know what to believe.
It shouldn’t be this hard. Whatever happened to unbiased, trustworthy, clear, succinct news … and unbiased, tough investigative reporting? Why haven’t we cleaned up the stuff on the web?
Or is it just me?
