Current Events:  Immigration — What you thought you knew about where U.S. immigrants work might be wrong.

Thinking out loud.  If we all had the same FACTS, we’d see less division, fewer extremes, and way less people believing misinformation.  But do we actually know the numbers?

USAFacts is a nonpartisan, not-for-profit initiative founded by ex-Microsoft CEO (and wonderfully bald) Steve Ballmer.  They present only official government data.  No spin — just facts.

They just dropped a report on immigrants in the U.S. workforce.

Out of 160 million U.S. workers, 30 million are immigrants.  (While I didn’t see it explicitly said, I think the data includes authorized immigrants and excludes unauthorized immigrants, i.e., those here illegally and those pending authorization).

But the real shocker?  Where they work.  Over half work in Educational and Health Services, Professional and Business Services, Construction, and Manufacturing.  My assumptions were way off — yours might be too.
