Happy New Year!
My 2025 Year in Review. My work friends will recognize my OCDness and my love of scorecards. Apologies to all if it’s bragging.
In no particular order:
Exercised on 341 days … for a total of 643 hours … and covered a total of 2,570 miles (the equivalent of being 76 miles short of LA if I started from Baltimore). Some would quibble but I count golf as exercise. In my defense, I walk about 1/3rd of the time. So, the exercise totals include 38 rounds of golf with an embarrassing average score of 99, a low score of 84, and an even more embarrassing high score of 119. (Note to self: How can I enjoy something I’m so bad at … and why don’t I improve?)
Read or listened to 29 books.
Authored 31 blog posts @ https://thinking-out-loud.org/.
Organized 3 networking events, 2 each with about 25 friends from my NSA days and 1 with what I call the Carroll County Wayward Boys Club (a birthday celebration for 4 of us … including my college roommate who is precisely 1 day younger than me … attended by about a dozen). Had regular lunches / dinners / golf with friends from my AT&T and NSA days, boyhood and college friends, et al.
Got Lifeguard certification from the Red Cross. Completed 10 online courses on Artificial Intelligence. (I wrote this; ChatGPT did not.) Attended a bunch of lectures on leadership and strategy, foreign affairs, and technology, maybe 1 per month.
Did some work advocating with legislators for open primary elections in Maryland. This would allow about 1 million independents (about 20% of all Maryland voters) to vote in primaries. I believe this is critically important to less hyper-partisanship and a more effective democracy.
And finally, and most important, a lot of quality time with wife Bunny and daughter Emily.
Not a bad 2025. At 77, I am so lucky to be able to do all of this stuff and be blessed with great family and friends.
Hopefully 2026 will be great for you and yours … and a same or better year for me.
